Alaturco Mediterranean Grill opened for business last August. On this evening, the restaurant was fairly quiet, as might be expected during this week of public schools' spring break, when so many families have sensibly vamoosed to somewhere warmer and sunnier. Plus, it was a Tuesday, and a cold, gray one, at that.
"But it won't be our last!" one of them laughed. They had ordered Iskender and Hunkar Begendi and each had enjoyed their dinner choices.
Alaturco is located at 2007 Doubleday Avenue (Route 50) in Ballston Spa., next to a Dunkin Donuts. It offers a reasonable assortment of bottled beer and wines, along with Turkish coffee and teas. Alaturco serves brunch on weekends until 2:00 PM. Take-out and free area delivery are also available. They have a website and a Facebook page.
With summer coming up, SPAC patrons take note: an Alaturco take-out dinner would make an awesome summer lawn picnic and it is only about four miles south of Spa State Park. Check them out when you are in the area.

If you live in snow country and have dogs, spring brings certain challenges. My new boots came in handy as the Handsome Husband and I started Round One of our annual toxic waste cleanup. If you face a similar undertaking, I recommend these boots.
Hasn't this been the grayest, brownest, coldest spring you can remember? Here it is April 7 and there are only a few hardy shoots greening up in our garden.
I think the wild rabbits must be starving. They've been scarfing spilled birdseed in our backyard and I have never seen them do that before. Well, there just isn't anything green for them to eat yet.
Despite the gloomy weather, the HH and I did take a pleasant walk yesterday at the Saratoga Battlefield.. Even there, the tour road is still closed because of remaining ice and snow. But my goodness, it felt great to get outdoors and move. Come on already, spring!
